SBP Expands Opportunities To invest For Pakistanis Abroad
Published
10 months agoon

The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) has made it easier for foreign Pakistanis to invest in Pakistan, mostly through public and unregistered firms, mutual funds, and real estate.
To provide additional investment and financing opportunities to non-resident Pakistanis (NRPs), the State Bank of Pakistan has permitted direct investment in Pakistani shares and units of funds established and operated by private fund management companies licenced by the Security Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP) through Rupee-based Roshan Digital Accounts (RDAs).
The aforementioned improvements will not only increase investment prospects for non-resident Pakistanis, but will also make it easier for them to purchase property in Pakistan using bank financing. Similarly, before, funds could only be transferred into RDAs through banking methods. However, based on feedback from NRPs, inflows from abroad into RDAs have been permitted via MTOs. This would give another easy and cost-effective method of sending remittances, particularly to NRPs who may not have a bank account in another country.
Non-resident Pakistan Origin Card (POC) holders have recently been permitted to obtain consumer loans from Pakistani banks.
