Mehwish Hayat indicated interest in politics in an interview, stating that Imran Khan was a cricketer and that if he can become Prime Minister, then why couldn’t an actress become Prime Minister as well? I am not contesting Imran Khan for the prime ministership, but if someone wants to take his place, I may also run for the position.

She has come under fire for making a comparison between herself and Prime Minister David Cameron.

A user criticized Mehwish Hayat, claiming that she lacked the same level of education as Imran Khan, who he said was the best Pakistani Prime Minister in history.

One user stated that Imran Khan did not become Prime Minister overnight; he had to work extremely hard for 23 years before being appointed to the position; so, please refrain from making unwarranted comparisons to the dignified Prime Minister.
