Prime Minister, PM Imran Khan has asked the relevant authorities to initiate an awareness campaign to explain the advantages of electronic voting machines (EVMs) to the general public and all other parties involved in the elections.
The decision was made by the premier on Friday, three days after the Federal Cabinet resolved that the government should use electronic voting machines in the future general elections in 2023.
During a review meeting on the use of electronic voting machines in the elections, the Prime Minister presided over a gathering that included the Federal Ministers, Fawad Chaudhry and Shibli Faraz, Adviser to the Prime Minister on Parliamentary Affairs Babar Awan, Special Assistant Shehbaz Gill, and senior officials from the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) and the Ministry of Science and Technology.
The Prime Minister was told of the Judicial Commission’s suggested legal reforms for the use of electronic voting machines (EVMs) in order to make the election process more transparent.
On Tuesday, the Prime Minister asked the opposition parties to check the electronic voting machines (EVMs), but they politely denied the invitation, stating that they will not allow the government to utilize EVMs in the upcoming elections.
