PARIS – UEFA confirmed Friday that the Champions League Final 2023 will be held in Istanbul, following the relocation of the previous two editions to Portugal because to COVID-19 difficulties.
The 2020 competition was significantly disrupted by the pandemic and culminated with a ‘Final Eight’ tournament in Lisbon following the championship’s relocation from Istanbul.
The final between Chelsea and Manchester City was scheduled to take place in the Ataturk Olympic Stadium again last season, but UEFA relocated it to Porto following the UK government’s decision to place Turkey on its travel blacklist.
Saint Petersburg, which was originally due to host the 2021 showpiece, will instead host the final next year, while Wembley will host the 2024 finale.
Munich, which was scheduled to host the final in 2023, will now host the event in 2025.
