Podbike is proceeding with its plans to begin shipping the Frikar, the company’s electric bike-car, in late 2022. The Frikar is an enclosed four-wheeled electric bike with a distinctive appearance. Podbike, a Norwegian mobility startup, is riding the waves after raising up to 3.2 million euros ($3.64 million) in funding and receiving significant preorders for the Frikar.

The Frikar is being marketed as a vehicle that provides superior protection from adverse weather conditions and an enhanced driving experience due to its improved aerodynamic shape. The Frikar’s top is detachable, making it ideal for summer rides. Although the Frikar is a single-seat vehicle, an extra kid passenger seat could be added to replace the 160-liter baggage area.
The Podbike Frikar has already had over 3,400 preorders and requires only a €300 deposit from its €6,429 ($7,300) retail price. The company’s initial deliveries will be made in its home market, but later orders from other regions of Europe and beyond will also be fulfilled. In Europe, the Frikar is technically classified as an electric bicycle, which allows it to travel in bicycle lanes while managing metropolitan traffic.
