Xiaomi, known for producing high-quality phones at a low cost and with flagship-like specs, has released the Redmi 10, the newest value-for-money midrange in the Redmi family that delivers more upgrades at a lower cost.
The phone is the first in the Redmi lineup to include a 90Hz refresh rate and the all-new MediaTek Helio G88 SoC, which is an enhanced version of the previous G85 SoC.
Display and Design
To begin, the Redmi 10 has a 6.5” 1080p” LCD (20:9) with a refresh rate of 90Hz (support for 60Hz and 45Hz modes included). The punch hole cutout at the front houses an 8MP selfie camera.
The phone comes with a side-mounted fingerprint sensor and runs MIUI 12.5 based on Android 11. Other features include two speakers and a 3.5mm headphone port.
Storage and Internals
The main processor is a MediaTek Helio G88, which is an improved version of the G85. This is coupled with up to 4GB/6GB of RAM and up to 64GB/128GB of eMMC storage. In any of the available models, there is no extendable storage.
Cameras
When it comes to photo quality and video output, Redmi cameras are often second-hand. However, the main shooter on the rear of the brand’s current Redmi 10 is a 50MP high-resolution sensor teamed with 8MP ultrawide, 2MP macro, and 2MP depth sensors.
The selfie shooter in the punch hole cutout on the front is an 8MP sensor capable of capturing 1080p movies at 30fps.
Pricing and Battery
The Redmi 10 comes with a 5,000mAh battery that supports 18W wired charging through a USB Type-C connector and 9W reverse charging.
The phone is available in Carbon Gray, Pebble White, and Sea Blue. The entry-level model costs $180. The 4GB/128GB and 6GB/128GB models will cost $200 and $220, respectively.
According to reports from China, the Redmi 10 series will first be available in Malaysia, with global rollouts scheduled to follow next week.
