In a recent discovery, security researchers identified a problem in Windows 10 that grants you administrative privileges simply by connecting a Razer Mouse. The Razer Synapse program, which allows you to customize your Razer devices, map buttons, set up macros, and more, has a security problem that you should be aware of.
An exploitable zero-day vulnerability in the plug-and-play Razer Synapse installation was identified by security researcher jonhat, who discovered a zero-day vulnerability that instantly grants you administrative access in Windows 10.
Administrator privileges are the highest degree of user rights that allow you to take complete control of the system, including the ability to install and delete whatever you want, including viruses. The ability to run any system-level command on the operating system is also provided by this feature.
Need local admin and have physical access?
– Plug a Razer mouse (or the dongle)
– Windows Update will download and execute RazerInstaller as SYSTEM
– Abuse elevated Explorer to open Powershell with Shift+Right clickTried contacting @Razer, but no answers. So here's a freebie pic.twitter.com/xDkl87RCmz
