BEIJING: A Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman praised Prime Minister Imran Khan’s recent remarks on China’s poverty-relief effort and stated that China was ready to strengthen exchanges and cooperation with other nations in poverty relief.
“China is ready to make a stronger contribution to the construction of a poverty-free community with a shared future for humanity based on common development,” Wang Wenbin said at his regular briefing in response to Prime Minister Imran Khan’s complimentary words.
PM Imran Khan stated in a video message aired last week at a session commemorating the 20th anniversary of Juncao Assistance and Sustainable Development Cooperation that China was a role model for developing countries in poverty alleviation.
Over the last four decades, China’s amazing progress has lifted 800 million people out of poverty, he noted.
In response to the comments, Wang stated that China welcomed Prime Minister Imran Khan’s supportive remarks. According to the spokesman, by the end of 2020, China will have met its new era poverty alleviation aim, moving roughly 100 million underprivileged rural dwellers living below the current poverty line out of poverty.
“770 million rural dwellers in China have been lifted out of poverty since the beginning of reform and opening-up,” he added.
According to World Bank criteria, the Chinese population lifted out of poverty accounted for more than 70% of the global total over the same time span, he said.
As a big country with roughly one-fifth of the world’s population, China had met the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development’s poverty reduction target ten years ahead of schedule.
This has allowed hundreds of millions of Chinese people to live better lives and has considerably reduced the world’s destitute population.
This achievement is not only a watershed moment in the history of the Chinese nation’s development and the history of humanity’s poverty reduction, but it is also a vivid illustration of the Chinese understanding of human rights that “the rights to subsistence and development are the basic human rights of paramount importance.” It represents a significant contribution to the worldwide human rights fight.
Wang stated that the secret to China’s historic feat in eradicating absolute poverty is that the Communist Party of China (CPC) has always prioritised poverty reduction in its administration and eradicated poverty through development.
China has suggested and implemented a novel technique for tailor-made poverty reduction, employing precise and stringent standards, as well as rigorous monitoring and evaluation, to make poverty alleviation activities more targeted and effective.
He stated that the Chinese side has been pursuing poverty reduction based on its own reality, fully recognising the primary role of the underprivileged population, and pooling the strength of all sides to produce a strong synergy.
He claimed that China’s successful poverty reduction demonstrated that poverty was not invincible, and that “the road of poverty reduction with Chinese features offers a Chinese solution to the issues of modern state governance.”
